Research questions and objectives:
The refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine have evoked sympathy and solidarity from a large part of Hungarian society. Similarly to our previous studies in crisis situations, from spring 2022 onwards we will investigate the forms, organisational frameworks and individual motivations for helping Ukrainian refugees, the environmental factors that explain the emergence (or lack thereof, including rejection) of solidarity, and the effects of community action on social discourses of responsibility, deservingness, identity and otherness.
The research uses a mixed methodology:
- representative survey
- qualitative expert interviews
- case studies, offline and online field research
- media research
